Very few people are able to answer the question: “what is nano-technology” and even fewer have access to the laboratories where this research is taking place. UCLA and UCSB are home to the recently established California Nano Systems Institute and Jim Gimzewski is one of the key participating scientists helping to define the vision and direction. When Victoria proposed to make the lab more accessible to the general public he welcomed the idea and they set up streaming cameras looking outside his window, in the lab, inside the scanning tunneling microscope and at the future CNSI building.
